Apple has signed a long term lease for 20,000 square feet at in a loft style building built in 1930, located at 247 Bedford Avenue, corner North 4th and North 3rd Streets. This location is across the street from an 85,000 square foot retail development located at 242 Bedford Avenue. Some retail neighbors that already opened are Duane Reade, Sea Restaurant, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Paul Smith and Bedford Mini Mart and some plan to open in the area are Whole Foods, J. Crew, Starbucks and Urban Outfitters.

Apple currently has 5 Manhattan locations with it's flagship at 767 Fifth Avenue, which opened in 2006. Apple's only NYC store outside of Manhattan is in the Staten Island Mall, which opened in 2006.

Retail experts call Apple's arrival in Brooklyn a "long awaited affirmation of Brooklyn's hotness as a retail location". Many of Apple's customers live in Williamsburg, so it does make a lot of sense for them to be there.

In 2012, Red Sky Capitol paid $66M for 235 and 247 Bedford Avenue.

Former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz wrote to Steve Jobs, Apple's founder trying to get Apple to come to Brooklyn. Markowitz wrote " just like Apple, Brooklyn is now an international brand, signifying the coolest place on earth to live, work, play and create".
