The much beloved Dumbo Arts Festival, in it's 18th year, took place on the weekend of September 26th through the 28th. This year's festival showcased local artists as well as artists from around the world.

According to Lisa Kim Two Trees Director of Cultural Affairs " many of the pieces being presented are experimental and interactive and are quite engaging and entertaining". The event was sponsored by Two Trees Management Company and made possible by The Dumbo BID, The developers of Dumbo Heights and Empire Stores, M&T Bank, Chicago Title Insurance, East River Ferry and local patrons Leaf Medical and Mark Jupiter Furniture.

The Dumbo Arts Festival is the single largest free art event in New York City. The Festival covers 6 city blocks with more than 100 open art studios and art throughout Dumbo's parks, shops, alleyways and waterfront.

Another amazing festival took place in Dumbo for the first time this year.  The 1st Annual Dumbo Festival of Lights both delighted and disappointed thousands of visitors to the neighborhood. The festival took place on November 6th to the 8th and was produced in partnership with the Dumbo Business Improvement District.

The festival was described by many as magical and by others as the worst public event experience ever because of the out of control atmosphere, lack of organization and lack of crowd control on pedestrian space.

On the positive side, this festival was a huge display of light of all colors and textures presented in a very sophisticated and exciting multi dimensional way. The New York Festival Of Lights also featured lighting and art installations created by lighting designers, performance artists and technologists.

Event organizers will certainly be better prepared for next year's festival.
