Construction will begin on 4 park projects in Brooklyn, NY at a cost of more than $31M.

There will be a brand new park in Greenpoint, reconstruction of an Ocean Hill playground and the addition of a skate park, revitalizing a park in Downtown Brooklyn.

50 Kent in Bushwick Inlet Park is a brand new park coming to Northern Brooklyn, New York. This new $7.7M park will have new seating areas, gathering areas, expansive lawns, an overlook with beautiful views of the city and a water play area to keep cool in the summer months.

The community park in Ocean Hill named Callahan Kelly will undergo a reconstruction of the playground, spray shower, perimeter sidewalks, walls, basketball courts, adult fitness equipment and sitting areas. This project will include a brand new skate park. The project comes at a cost of more than $18M. The parks neighborhood boundaries are Fulton and Truxton Streets, Van Sinderen Avenue and the Eastern Parkway extension. The Park was named after 2 local soldiers who died in WW1, William E. Callahan and Edward E. Kelly.

The Susan Smith McKinny Stewart park reconstruction, formerly Bridge Park 2 was officially renamed to honor the Black experience. This project will cost $7.5M. The park will have a new adult area, multi purpose synthetic turf field, a performance stage, benches, fences, drainage, water supply and new plantings. Susan Smith McKinny was the 1st African American woman in New York State to receive a license to practice medicine. She was born, raised, lived and practiced in Brooklyn.

The renovation of LaGuardia playground in South Williamsburg is costing $4.76M and was funded by mayor Bill DiBlasio. The reconstruction will include a new children's play area, new play equipment, seating, landscaping and a spray shower.

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J Silver says “Increasing access to open space and improving parkland is integral to building healthy communities”. “These 4 projects in Brooklyn reflect our effort to invest in our neighborhoods and offer New Yorkers much needed respite and recreation”.

Assembly member Emily Gallagher says” For years North Brooklyn has been asking: where's our park? “With this historic investment at 50 Kent, we're one giant step closer to making the full Bushwick Inlet Park a reality”.
