To all real estate agents in Brooklyn and all real estate companies that have been keeping tabs on this saga.

It took years of legal battles and tremendous community dissent, but on September 10, Fortis Property Group closed on the site of Long Island College Hospital (LICH.)

Fortis spokesman James Yolles said “we look forward to refining our redevelopment plans over the next couple of months through our work with Councilman Lander and other elected  officials, stakeholders and the broader community”.

Elected officials say both the proposed options that Fortis has presented are completely out of scale with the adjacent Cobble Hill Historic District.

The deal is closed but the battle continues.

On the brighter side of this transaction for Fortis, the City Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the condo conversion and changes to the exterior of the former LICH Polhemus memorial Clinic (French Renaissance Revival) building located at 350 Henry Street.

The Polhemus building is one of the finest architectural properties in the LICH portfolio and was built in 1896-1897.

Fortis has planned that the 43,187 square foot building will have 17 apartments.
