Yes, you’ve heard of Bensonhurst in Brooklyn from Saturday Night Fever fame and maybe you’ve heard of Borough Park in Brooklyn. But Mapleton in Brooklyn, NY? Where is it and what will you find there?

Mapleton is in Southwest Brooklyn. Neighborhood boundaries are 16th Avenue, 57th Street, Dahill Road and 65th Street.

Mapleton is a melting pot and has a diverse population, typical of many Brooklyn New York neighborhoods and with expensive real estate values.

Mapleton has excellent walkability with shops, restaurants, café’s, and a wonderful mix of retail stores on 18th and 20th Avenues that cater to Italian, Jewish, Asian, Pakistan, Polish, Latino and Arab families. Public transportation to Manhattan consists of the N and F trains and local bus lines include the B-9, B-6, B-8 and B-11.

Mapleton is home to Washington Cemetary, founded in 1840 by James Arlington Bennet. Washington Cemetary, located at the intersection of Bay Parkway and Mc Donald Avenue,  is one of Brooklyn’s largest (100 acres!)and most historic cemetaries. Open to the public 6 days a week, this cemetery is filled with beautiful and historic gravestones ,statues ,monuments and mausoleums. The Jewish Shakespear, playwright Jacob Gordin is buried there.
