Here is an update for real estate companies and real estate agents in Brooklyn following the latest news in Brooklyn Heights.

Developer Hudson Companies has paid $52M for the Brooklyn Heights Public Library building located at 280 Cadman Plaza West.

In place of the old library is a proposed 36 story mixed use luxury tower designed by Marvel Architects. There are plans for a 21,500 square foot state of the art library, two ground floor retail spaces and 139 condominium apartments.

In a deal with the city, Hudson Cos. will build 114 units of affordable housing off-site in Clinton Hill on Fulton Street and Atlantic Avenue.

In a Brooklyn Borough Hall public hearing last week local residents, union members and library advocates had an opportunity to make their voices heard, with many against the sale of public land to a private developer.

Brooklyn Public Library President and CEO Linda Johnson and Hudson Cos. David Kramer spoke at this meeting and presented the many positives that this project would bring to the neighborhood and the Brooklyn Public Library system.

In place of the current library which is in poor condition, would be a smaller, but state of the art library, double the amount of affordable housing, even though being built off-site and funds to upgrade other Brooklyn Public Library branches in dire need of renovation.

To be continued….
