The new New York City Ferry. Wow!

Brilliantly conceived, brilliantly planned but at least for now demand for The South Brooklyn Ferry Service has far outweighed the supply of ferries to accommodate the crowds of enthusiastic commuters, tourists and fun seekers.

The new NYC Ferry has a Rockaway Route Ferry service and South Brooklyn Ferry service. The cost of the fare is only $2.75!  South Brooklyn Ferry Service connects Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Red Hook, Governor’s Island (summer weekends only), Brooklyn Bridge Park, Dumbo and Wall Street. Total travel time is approximately 49 minutes. The weekday schedule runs from departures at Wall Street at 7:15am and arrivals at Bay Ridge at 7:58am and go as late as departures at Wall Street at 9:45pm and arriving at Bay Ridge at 10:28pm. Weekend schedule allows for 10:10pm departure and 10:53 arrival.

Rockaway Route Ferry service connects Rockaway Beach, Sunset Park and Wall Street. Total travel time 59 minutes. The weekday schedule runs from Rockaway Beach departures at 5:15am to Wall Street arrivals at 6:13am and go as late as a 8:15pm Rockaway Beach departure and a 9:13pm arrival at Wall Street. Weekend departures are at 9:30pm and arrive at 10:28pm.

Nearly 50,000 passengers used the ferry in the 1st week of operation in June.

The Ferry service is being run by Hornblower, a Cruise and Events company based in San Francisco and was founded in 1980. Hornblower is the nation’s largest private passage vessel company.

The Ferry service provides passengers with incredible views and easy access to several of Brooklyn’s fabulous, fascinating and fun waterfront neighborhoods at an amazing $2.75 fare cost. For example, getting to Red Hook has now been made much quicker, easier and less expensive than a car service and you can experience the many wonderful shops, galleries, bars and restaurants in this fabulous Brooklyn neighborhood.

Have a great summer!
