Gowanus, Brooklyn New York is in the South part of the borough, bounded by Wyckoff Street on the North, Fourth Avenue to the East, Gowanus Expressway to the South and Bond Street to the West.

Gowanus has exciting neighbors that it is adjacent to such as Park Slope, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Red Hook, Fort Greene and Greenwood Heights. Despite the issue of the badly polluted Gowanus Canal and plans for a major cleanup of the canal, Gowanus has developed an industrial chic identity of it’s own. The vitality of the Gowanus neighborhood and real estate market is evident with numerous condominium projects completed and units placed on the market for sale, houses are selling at record prices and many restaurants, bars and galleries have opened over the last 10 years. Gowanus real estate is in high demand. Some examples of the range in price for properties in today’s Gowanus are:

Subway service into Manhattan from Gowanus consists of the BMT D, N and R trains on the 4th Avenue line and the  F and G trains.

Three’s Brewing located at 333 Douglass Street, for great food in a great bar.

Insa located at 328 Douglass Street, for traditional Korean barbecue, great cocktails and a private room for Karaoke.

Runner and Stone located at 285 3rd Avenue, a bakery restaurant in the farm to table style and for good pasta.

Pig Beach located at 480 Union Street, a meat mecca with guest pit masters from around the country.

Freek’s Mill located at 285 Nevins Street, a cozy spot where beautifully prepared seasonal fare is served along with a good wine list.

Baba’s Pierogies located at 295 3rd Avenue, for Eastern European comfort food.

My Cuban Spot located at 488 Carroll Street, where you’ll find a Miami chef with Cuban roots serving up delicious sandwiches and empanadas.

Some of the best bars in Gowanus are:

The Bell House located at 149 7th Street, a former warehouse, now a bar and performance space.

Mission Dolores located at 249 4th Avenue, a sports bar with pinball machines and board games.

High Dive located at 243 5th Avenue, with a wide variety of beers and liquors.

For live entertainment in Gowanus there is:

Littlefield located at 635 Sackett Street, an old textile warehouse transformed into a live music space, comedy club, art, film and theatre space.
