Award Wining Brooklyn Construction Projects

The Real Estate and Development Committee of The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, held its 12th annual Building Brooklyn Awards Ceremony on July 12th.

The following are Brooklyn Building Award recipients for their innovative and neighborhood enhancing construction projects:

  1. Award category Civic/Institutional, award recipient is BLDG 92, located in The Brooklyn Navy Yard and details the history and current use of the yard with an interesting and fun emphasis on ships.
  2. Award category Community Development, award recipient is Red Hook Initiative, consists of a 3,000 square foot warehouse/community center serves over 100 youths daily and has offices, meeting rooms, gathering areas and employs 60 Red Hook residents.
  3. Award category Academic Building/ Education, award recipient is gorgeous Medgar Evers College complex located in Crown Heights.
  4. Award category Open Space, award recipient is Restoration Plaza located in Bedford Stuyvesant, functions as a town square and a major destination for education, commerce and culture in Central Brooklyn.
  5. Award category Affordable green living, award recipient is Dumont Green located in East New York. The apartment building consists of 139 affordable rental apartments and has also achieved a National Grid Award for Energy Efficiency.
  6. Award category Recreational facility, award recipient is Jane's Carousel Award located in Dumbo in Brooklyn Bridge Park and was a gift from The Walentas Family. The Jane's Carousel building is transparent and contains an illuminated carousel which can be seen at night from all directions, even from the FDR Drive across the river in Manhattan.
  7. Award category Retail, award recipient is DeKalb Market located in Downtown Brooklyn,  consists of many little shops selling unique items for gift giving as well as many food shops selling very scrumptious specialty dishes such as Filipino chicken BBQ and garlic rice and Challah short rib sandwiches.
  8. Award category Residential Single family, award recipient is Atrium House located in Williamsburg consists of a 2,100 square foot home and highlights an inventive, reclamation materials such as planks salvaged from Coney Islands boardwalk that line the courtyard deck.
  9. Award category Residential Affordable Rental Housing for working families, award recipient is Liberty Apartments located in East New York.
  10. Award category Residential Supportive Housing, award recipient is 97 Crooke Avenue Flatbush houses both lower income community residents and formerly homeless individuals exiting the shelter system.
  11. Award category Residential Low Rise, award recipient is Third + Bond located in between the Carroll Gardens and Gowanus neighborhoods. Third + Bond is a modern version of the traditional townhouse with 44 luxury residential condominium units that have met the toughest energy efficiency and environmental sustainability standards.
  12. Award category Residential Multi Family, award recipient is 220 Water Street located in Dumbo and was previously a Shoe factory warehouse. The loft building consists of luxury Loft rentals built with original timber columns and beams as well as high end finishes and offering top quality amenities.
