In our blogs dated May 10th 2013 and September 19th 2013 we have been following the transformation of a section of the Fort Greene neighborhood formerly known as the BAM Cultural District and is now called Brooklyn Cultural District.

In this blog we will update our readers on the progress of this neighborhood into a cultural district for the 21st Century.

Several Residential and Mixed Use and Hotel projects of note that are coming along are:

The Ashland, located at 250 Ashland Place, next to the Shakespeare Theatre For a New Audience. This mixed use project by The Gotham Organization is  planned for 52 stories, 4 586 residential units, 50% designated for affordable housing, 10,800 square feet of retail space, 8,000 square feet of Office space for Cultural Institutions.

EyeBAM - The parking lot at 280 Ashland Avenue or 15 Lafayette Avenue, next to the Mark Morris Dance Center, was purchased from the city by Jonathan Rose Cos. Plans have not yet been finalized but the project being considered for the site is a 12 story, 116 unit rental apartment building with 40% designated for affordable housing and two cultural facilities: Eyebeam Art & Technology Center and Science Gallery International.

286 Ashland Place, near the Peter Jay Sharp and BAM Fisher buildings. This Two Trees Management  project consist of a 32 story, 379 unit rental building with cultural facilities. 76 of the 379 units will be for affordable housing. The project will include a 15,000 square foot public plaza, a public library, BAM Cinema and a facility for 651 Arts.

The Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel located at 95 Rockwell Place is unfortunately slow going at this point. According to Mitch Garrett V.P. of acquisitions and development at co developer VOS Hospitality “ we’re frozen until we get demolition permits”. The permits are expected in a month or so. This 29 story,  201 room Hotel will have an exterior with a unique fractured look to it. The Hotel will have a basement lounge, rooftop bar, a restaurant and a banquet hall. Mr. Garrett believes that The Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel will make a significant contribution to the Brooklyn Cultural District.

66 Rockwell Place a 326 unit rental building being built by the Dermot Company
