Coney Island Today

Tags: All about Brooklyn New York

Yes, Nathan’s famous hot dogs are still delicious and the annual Mermaid Parade is as outrageous as ever. Yes, the Coney Island Boardwalk is still the longest and widest in the world and yes although The New York Aquarium is the oldest continually operating Aquarium in the United States, the expansion and renovation has still not been completed.

In today’s Coney Island neighborhood there is so much happening. For example, there is a brand new 5,000 seat Ford Amphitheatre on the boardwalk where all kinds of wonderful bands like CHICAGO played this past summer. The 94 year old historic Spanish Colonial revival style Child’s restaurant which was designed by Dennison and Hirons, had been vacant for decades had an amazing restoration done to their façade. The inside has been gut renovated into what is now called Kitchen 21, a gorgeous and very hip looking open concept food hall/bistro with 5 eateries under one roof! The café serves made to order sandwiches, the community Clam bar serves delicious seafood, The Boardwalk & Vine rooftop wine bar looks out over the beach and ocean. Last but not least is the Test Kitchen, which has a rotation of celebrity chefs serving many different dishes. The gorgeous parachute bar runs the entire length of this eatery serving 32 different beers, Brooklyn themed cocktails and so much more. There is live Jazz on Sunday!
